Heirloom is the largest piece we make and the one bought with the longest time horizon. People choose it when the memory is not going to be told again unless somebody records it now.
The family historian
Every family has one — the person holding the albums, the negatives, the names on the backs of photographs nobody else can identify. Heirloom is for the piece that has to survive them: the artwork at the largest size we print, the story kept in the voice of the person who still remembers it, and a certificate of authenticity with the piece.
Families marking an ending
A house being sold, a move into somewhere smaller, the last of something. These are the hardest gifts to get right, because anything that performs sentiment is worse than nothing. A large, quiet, accurate piece is usually the only thing that works.

Heirloom has an extended preview and approval process because these are rarely decided in one sitting, and because the buyer is often doing it at a bad time.

Start with the thing you can still see
You write it as you would say it: the table with the burn mark nobody ever fixed, the chair at the end, the radio on the windowsill, the back door open because the oven made it too hot even in December. Specifics are what the artwork is built from — generalities produce a generic room.

Bring in the people who were there
Siblings and cousins can add photographs, voice notes and written memories from one shared link, on any phone, with nothing to install. Two heavy contributions are worth more here than twenty light ones, and everything comes to you before it goes in.

Adjust it until it is right
Heirloom includes custom adjustments: if the light is wrong, if the room reads too warm, if something in the composition is not what you remember, it gets changed before it is printed rather than after it is hung.

When you approve it, it is printed at 20×28 on archival stock, packed with protective materials, and shipped white-glove.

A house is sold after forty-one years. Three siblings split the cost of one piece for their mother, who is moving into a flat and has said she does not want a fuss. They buy it two days after the sale completes, which is to say at the worst possible moment.
The memory is not a person. It is the kitchen on Christmas morning before anyone else was up: the table with the burn mark from 1987, their father’s chair at the end, the radio on the windowsill, the back door open because the oven made it too hot even in December. Two of them add something — the back step, in the same order, every year, because their mother made them; the chair nobody sat in afterwards, not once, in eleven years.
