To convert several photos to JPEG on a Mac, configure the Preview app to open groups of files in a single window, select them all at once in the sidebar, and use the export menu to change their format to JPEG (Apple Support; Apple Support).

Setting Preview to Open Multiple Photos Together

Before converting multiple files, choose Preview > Settings, then click Images (Apple Support). Under the option for “When opening files,” select "Open groups of files in the same window" (Apple Support). This setting uses one window for each set of files you open in Preview at the same time (Apple Support).

Selecting and Exporting Batch Photos

Open the image files you want to convert in one window (Apple Support). To convert more than one image file at a time, select them in that window’s sidebar (Apple Support). Once the photos are selected, choose File > Export (Apple Support).

Setting the JPEG Format and Saving

In the export menu, click the Format pop-up menu and choose JPEG, though other options like HEIC, PNG, or TIFF are also available (Apple Support). Depending on the file format you choose, additional options may appear (Apple Support). If you choose JPEG or JPEG-2000, you can adjust the image’s quality (Apple Support).

Type a new name, or choose a new location for saving the converted file, then click Save (Apple Support). As a practical suggestion, you may want to create a dedicated folder for the save location to keep your batch of new JPEGs organized.
