How to Create Smart Albums for Family Photos on Mac

To create a Smart Album for family photos on a Mac, you can navigate to the File menu to choose New Smart Album, assign a custom name, and select specific search criteria like a name or date to group your images automatically Apple Support.

Initiating a new Smart Album

To begin, choose File > New Smart Album, or hold your pointer over Albums in the sidebar to click the More button, and then choose New Smart Album Apple Support.

Next, type a name for your new album Apple Support. A dialog will appear where you can choose your criteria, and you are able to set one condition or many Apple Support.

Setting grouping conditions

To set criteria for your condition, look for the third pop-up menu in the dialog, which says "favorite" by default Apple Support. Understanding Smart Album limitations

Smart Albums that you create on your Mac do not appear in Photos on your iPhone or iPad Apple Support.
