To find photos of relatives together on a Mac, you can view automatic group collections or build a custom group in the Photos app Apple Support. The application groups people and pets who often appear together in photos and videos, sorting them into group collections Apple Support.

Finding automatic group collections

The Photos app automatically organizes individuals and pets who frequently appear together into group collections Apple Support. To view these items, go to the Photos app on your Mac, click Collections in the sidebar, and then click People & Pets (or People) Apple Support.

Viewing the photos within a group

Double-click a specific group to see your photos of that group Apple Support. When you open a group, you see a summary of the best photos Apple Support. To see all the photos in that group collection, click All in the toolbar Apple Support.

Creating a custom group of family members

You can create a custom group using any combination of people and pets from the People & Pets collection Apple Support. As a practical suggestion, you might manually select extended family members who do not appear together in the app's automatic groups. To start, Control-click People & Pets (or People), then choose New Group Apple Support. Next, select the specific people or pets to include in the group, and click Add Apple Support.

Viewing groups with an iCloud Shared Photo Library

If you use an iCloud Shared Photo Library, you must choose Both Libraries from the Library pop-up menu in the toolbar to see items in People & Pets Apple Support.
